Intended learning outcomes
Upon approval, the student should be able to:
- Calculate and interpret the meaning of average molar masses (Mn and Mw), degree of polymerization and polydispersity; describe the methods of determination of Mn and Mw and their scope.
- Interpret and describe the main types of polymerization mechanisms and their associated kinetics.
- Identify, describe and apply the main polymerization techniques.
- Establish structure-properties-function correlations for the main types of structural and functional polymers.
- Know how the various methods of analysis and characterization of polymers are applied and interpret the outcomes.
- Describe the most common types of polymerization reactors, identifying the required specificities for each polymerization type.
- Describe the main polymer processing technologies as a function of polymer properties and their applications.
